มีหลายที่ที่บอกให้เลือกใช้ As หรือ Per อย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง เพราะ As กับ Per ในที่นี้มีความหมายว่า According to เหมือนกัน แล้วจะใช้ซ้ำทำไม แต่ก็มีหลายที่บอกให้ใช้ทั้งสองคำด้วยกันได้ คงเป็นเรื่องของความนิยมก็นิยมไปแล้วนิ    แต่ก็มีบางคน (ฝรั่ง) บอกอีกว่า As per หรือ Per นั้นเป็นทางการ (เว่อร์) ไป ใช้แบบสองประโยคแรกก็พอแล้ว

ข้างบนนี้ทั้งหมดแปลว่า “ตามที่ได้คุยกันทางโทรศัพท์แล้ว …” บรรทัดที่สอง As we had agreed over the phone ย้ำหน่อยว่า ตามที่เราได้ตกลงกันทางโทรศัพท์

ในที่นี้ เราใช้ over the phone ไม่ใช่ on the phone เพราะ over the phone ให้ความหมายในทางสื่อสารกันด้วยโทรศัพท์ ในขณะที่ on the phone บอกถึงการกระทำ เช่น She’s on the phone. เธอคุยโทรศัพท์อยู่

สังเกตว่า As per หรือ Per หรือ According to จะตามด้วย noun เช่น our conversation

แต่ As ตามด้วย noun  ไม่ได้ แต่จะตามด้วยประโยคแบบเต็มหรือย่อก็ได้ เช่น As we had agreed on the phone, …  หรือ As agreed over the phone, …  (ตัด we had ออก) หรือ As requested… ย่อจาก As I was requested…

ตามที่คุณครูสั่ง นักเรียนก็ได้เขียนรายงาน

ไม่ว่าจะเป็นคำไหน ก็ย้ายมาอยู่ในตำแหน่งกลางประโยคได้ เช่น
The patient rested for a week “per” the doctor’s advice.
The patient rested for a week “as per” the doctor’s advice.

The patient rested for a week “according to” the doctor’s advice.

คนไข้พักผ่อนเป็นเวลาหนึ่งสัปดาห์ “ตาม” คำแนะนำของแพทย์

อย่างไรก็ตาม ถ้าคุณต้องการบอกปริมาณต่อหน่วยวัด ห้ามใช้ AS PER  ต้องใช้ PER เฉย ๆ ค่ะ  เช่น

He eats 2 meals per day. หรือจะใช้ He eats 2 meals a day. ก็ได้ค่ะ (ใช้ a แทน per)

เขารับประทานอาหาร 2 มื้อต่อวัน

She drives 50 miles per hour. หรือ She drives 50 MPH. (MPH = miles per hour)

เธอขับรถด้วยความเร็ว 50 ไมล์ต่อชั่วโมง
